La direzione generale della Ricerca della Commissione europea ha pubblicato un invito a presentare proposte per il programma internazionale di scambio per il personale di ricerca (IRSES) Marie Curie. L'invito fa parte del programma di lavoro "Persone" 2009 del Settimo programma quadro (7°PQ).

GENEVA – Adolescents and young adults with HIV are at high risk of treatment failure and of transmitting the virus to their sexual partners, according to research published today in the international public health journal, the Bulletin of the World Health Organization.
The study, conducted in Haiti, showed that 12 months after beginning therapy, only 106 (73%) of 146 patients were still in medical care (the remainder having died or left therapy) and, of these, only 45% adhered well to life-prolonging antiretroviral treatment, 51% had virologic failure and 73% engaged in unsafe sex. Young people had twice the rate of virologic failure as older patients from the same clinic. 

UNESCO Director-General, Koïchiro Matsuura, and the Minister of Education of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Majed Bin Ali Al Noami, yesterday signed an agreement paving the way for the establishment of a state-of-the-art Centre for Information and Communication Technology to serve the Arab Region.

26 November 2008, Geneva — A group of specialists in the World Health Organization (WHO) developed a mathematical model and published findings in the Lancet today to stimulate discussion, debate and further research. The model suggests that using annual, universal voluntary HIV testing followed by immediate ART (irrespective of clinical stage or CD4 count) reduces new cases by 95% within ten years.

The Third European Media Forum for Young Journalists Working for Electronic Media ‘Dialogue of Cultures’ took place from 11 to 12 November 2008 at the State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg, Russia.
One the biggest museums of the world representing cultural heritage of the humanity gathered over 180 participants from 15 countries. Both young journalists and leading media professionals engaged in an intense dialogue over the key role of the mass media in overcoming stereotypes and fostering a culture of tolerance. Debates focused on emerging challenges of the modern society as well as possibilities of cultural and social exchange. Screening of the video materials brought by the participants boosted the discussions while visits to selected art exhibitions held in the Hermitage Museum provided a perfect background illustration of the Forum’s main theme.

The UNESCO Office in Apia, together with the Disaster Management Office (DMO) of the Government of Samoa, organized a Samoa Media Disaster Management Capacity Building Workshop in Apia, from 30 to 31 October 2008.

Disasters cause immense economic, social and cultural destruction setting back development and, sometimes, causing or increasing conflict. Within UNESCO’s strategy for disaster management and Pacific regional and national disaster risk reduction frameworks, UNESCO’s Communication and Information Sector seeks to build the capacity of media organizations to more effectively report on disaster management.

Specialised training for audiovisual media professionals will take place at the Journalism School of Casablanca, Morocco, from 24 to 28 November 2008. It is one in the series of training sessions organized by UNESCO’s Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC) for media professionals belonging to the Moroccan Association of Independent Radios and Televisions (ARTI).

Cambiare in ambito di scelte di comportamenti medici è stato sempre un argomento delicato: certamente con la vaccinazione per l’HPV la lotta contro il cervicocarcinoma ha subito una scossa evidente, nell’integrazione e l’impiego razionale dello screening. Ormai il vaccino viene posto come concetto di prevenzione primaria, ove la opzione di prevenzione secondaria è riservata al Pap Test e all’HPV-DNA. L’obiettivo finale deve sempre essere finalizzato al miglior traguardo nella barriera difensiva della salute della donna.
